PSAT Day (Oct 14th)

ROOM ASSIGNMENT

In the locker you will find the chart for room assignments for each grade level.  They are based on English classes.  Your English class is a group and you will report to the room that the chart indicates.  There is an example at the top of the page.  Go to the locker and open up the room assignment for your grade.

Calculators

In the Locker you will find the list of approved Calculators for the PSAT Test.

College Readiness Day

On Wednesday 10/14 Carlsbad High School will be conducting a college readiness day.  The seniors will take their senior picture and start the process toward graduation day.  The remaining three classes will be engaged in activities that directly relate to graduation and higher education.  We were fortunate enough to be able to provide every Junior the opportunity to take the PSAT test at no cost.  The Sophomores will be taking a similar test given by Princeton Review.  The Freshmen will be engaged in three activities, Naviance, StrenthQuest, and 7 Habit of Successful Teenagers Training.  All of these events will begin at 8:35 AM and the students will be released at 12:15  PM.

SENIOR iNFORMATION

Seniors are to report to The Gym for breakfast.  After breakfast they will go to the stadium for the Senior Picture.  After the picture they will go to Lancer Arena to listen to a motivational speaker.

Junior Information

The PSAT test is made up of four sections.  Two in English Language Arts and two in Math.  Students need to bring two or three of #2 pencils with them and a calculator.  The calculator can be scientific or graphing.  Students may not use a calculator on phone, ipod, or tablet.  Students must also bring a photo ID with them, their school ID works perfectly.  All other materials will be provided.  It is important to know that there are no electronical devices other than the calculators allowed in the testing rooms.  If a student uses a phone or any other type of device in the room during the time of testing they will be dismissed from the room and their test will be nullified and not scored.  Our best suggestion is to leave them at home or in their cars for the day.

Here is an excerp from the PSAT for Dummies Website.  This is an outside website that has advertising on it.  CHS is not endorsing any of the advertising or other websites promoted on this page.

Sophomores Information

The Mock PSAT test is made up of four sections to mirror the real PSAT.  Two in English Language Arts and two in Math.  The directions for students are the same.  Students need to bring two or three of #2 pencils with them and a calculator.  The calculator can be scientific or graphing.  Students may not use a calculator on phone, ipod, or tablet.   All other materials will be provided.  It is important to know that there are no electronical devices other than the calculators allowed in the testing rooms.  Our best suggestion is to leave them at home or in their cars for the day.

Freshmen Information

The Freshmen will engage in three activities that will start them on their road to graduation and beyond.  They will start their 4 year plans on Naviance.  They will learn a little about themselves, their interests and strengths.  This is done through the StrengthQuest website.  This is the same instrument that Qualcomm uses for its employee.  Finally they will go through a presentation on "The Seven Habits of Successful Teenagers.  The freshmen will report to their first activity by English class and to their assigned room.  They will then rotate to other rooms to complete the other two activities.  The Freshmen just need to bring a great attitude and willingness to learn.
